Specializing in custom hand woodcarving and original art for homes and businesses.
Welcome to my website, I have been carving since I could hold a knife. The whittling I did as a boy has grown into the carving I do now. My woodworking reflects a lifetime passion. My father taught me the basics of chisel and edge tool use and I am passing that knowledge on to my two children.
I like to use local materials and designs from nature to create unique pieces of art work. I specialize in working with homeowners and contractors to achieve architectural harmony in existing and new constructions with hand carved enhancements. I live in Pine Grove on the way to the Deschutes River, Maupin and the rest of South Wasco County, the transition zone between the forests of Mount Hood and the high desert of Eastern Oregon. I like to work in the Cascadian style of the WPA carvers of the 1930's. Much of my work consists of large two-dimensional panels. I am looking forward to appearing with my children in a PBS American Crafts special in April 2007 featuring the carving of migrating salmon pictured below.
In addition to carving wood, stone and ice, I also do intarsia, mosaics, and compete in international snow sculpture contests. Please feel free to contact with any questions you may have.
